Four People Shot at Howe Park - Unauthorized Gathering Erupts in Gunfire
Saturday night, an unapproved gathering of hundreds of people at Howe Park in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento became the scene of a shooting when 20 to 25 gunshots were fired as deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office were attempting to breaking up the gathering.
How Events Unfolded
Shortly after 6:30 PM, the SCSO got reports involving subjects possibly armed with concealed weapons at Howe Community Park. A second caller mentioned a potential fight and subjects running away.
An airship was deployed and conducted an aerial search but did not locate any physical confrontation.
At the same time, several hundred people had congregated at Howe Park for what law enforcement classified as an unauthorized event. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies set up around the park, turned on their emergency lights, and gave the crowd approximately 15 minutes commanding the crowd to clear out via loudspeaker announcements.
As law enforcement was clearing the area, between 20 and 25 shots rang out — triggering a panicked crowd in every direction.
The Injured
Four gunshot victims — one female and three males, all young adults in their 20s — were taken to Sacramento area hospitals. Two of the victims had serious injuries, one suffered moderate injuries, and one suffered injuries classified as minor. All four victims were stable. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District was on scene and assisted in the field.
Scene Details
The incident occurred on the Cottage Way side side of the park adjacent to the Home Depot store at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue in Sacramento. The Home Depot store was put more info under a brief lockdown. Additional shell casings were discovered on Cottage Way, with bullet website impacts found in the iron fence near the nearby Home Depot — showing shots fired in a southward direction from along Cottage Way toward the Home Depot. Investigators and crime scene technicians processed the scene through the night.
Suspects
Over law enforcement radio traffic, it was established that a vehicle connected to the shooting — identified as a Kia — was intercepted in Solano County with four occupants detained. Law enforcement website units were en route to collect the suspects and return them read more to Sacramento. Video confirmed the involvement of two shooters.
